The Character Process is a six week intensive course with homework assignments between sessions. The model is based on Julia’s methodology when creating characters for devised films - similar to the Mike Leigh process. Lesley Manville introduced Julia to Mike Leigh when they worked together and felt there was a lot of common ground.

WORKSHOP FORMAT
Week 1: Definition of self followed by selection of character model. Delineate between two.
Week 2: Begin investigation into off-stage life.
Week 3: Investigation into emotional life and stamina of character.
Week 4: Physicality and energy centering.
Week 5: Introduce characters to each other through improv.
Week 6: Shape potential film script.
