CASTING DIRECTOR GINNY SCHILLER | ONLINE SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE (6 WEEKS)
A specialist course examining Shakespearean texts for auditions and beyond, focussing on verse speaking and character.
Participants will be asked to record a short monologue in verse in advance to help Ginny allocate appropriate duologues to work on over the course.
10 participants will be paired up for specific scenes. Workshops will run on TUESDAY evenings for THREE hours, 6.30 to 9.30 GMT
WORKSHOP FORMAT
There is no one way to speak verse ‘correctly', but it’s important to show in an audition that the verse structure is present and contributing to the meaning.
We will explore what that means in practice and employ some simple techniques to help with phrasing, and see how that can contribute to an understanding of the character’s intentions. To begin with,
we’ll discuss the theory of verse structure alongside what you need to consider before going in for an audition - the characters, their situations, how to present yourself in the room or online etc - and explore alternative interpretations of the scenes and how different directors might audition.
We’ll then focus more on rehearsing the scene together, ready to record it in the final session. You will have the option to receive your footage after the course if you choose.
*** Upon request, you have the option to receive your footage after the course! ***
