BIO

CBE Lesley Manville was born on March 12, 1956 in Brighton, East Sussex, England. She is a multi award-winning actress of theatre, film, and television, and has worked extensively with director Mike Leigh. She is known for Another Year (2010), All or Nothing (2002), Topsy-Turvy (1999), and Secrets & Lies (1996), and her performance in Phantom Thread (2017), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also had a supporting role in Maleficent (2014). Manville's extensive stage career includes roles in As You Like It, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and The Alchemist. Her film debut was in Dance with a Stranger (1985).

Charlie Hanson's work as a director and producer spans over three decades of drama and comedy.  His award-winning work includes DESMONDS, CHEF, GARTH MARENGHI, THE BIG IMPRESSION, THE REAL McCOY, WHITES, EXTRAS, LIFE’S TOO SHORT, DEREK, IN THE LONG RUN and AFTER LIFE.

In 2004 he produced his first feature film, Amma Asante's BAFTA award-winning A WAY OF LIFE. The film went on to win 12 international awards, including the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film and International  Critics' Prize at the Miami International Film Festival in 2005, and four BAFTA Cymru awards. In 2010 he produced his second feature, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's CEMETERY JUNCTION.

He produced his third feature LIFE ON THE ROAD, which follows Ricky Gervais' infamous David Brent character as he goes on tour with his band Foregone Conclusion in search of musical fame and glory.   

WHERE HANDS TOUCH, written and directed by Amma Asante was his fourth feature film and had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018.

Recently he produced Ricky Gervais’ series AFTER  LIFE for Netflix, and is currently producing the third season.

Lucy is one half of Jenkins McShane Casting. She is a member of the CDG and BAFTA. London-based casting directors Lucy Jenkins and Sooki McShane established Jenkins McShane Casting over seven years ago, and have since cast over a hundred plays. West End credits include Magic Goes Wrong, Groan Ups, The Red Lion, The Kite Runner, Warhorse and – the Olivier Award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong and A Comedy About a Bank Robbery.

For screen, they have worked on several films including the Oscar-winning short The Confession, and recent features include Deus, Dark Encounter, For Love or Money, Widow’s Walk, Bliss! and The Comedian’s Guide to Survival.

A special guest joins us this week on the Working With Pinter Zoom session: star of BLACK MIRROR and THE GREAT, one of Harold Pinter's favourite actors Douglas Hodge is with us to assist in our exploration of THE CARETAKER. Olivier/Tony-winner Hodge not only played Aston opposite Michael Gambon, he also acted in Pinter's BETRAYAL, MOONLIGHT, THE LOVER and NO MAN'S LAND (with Pinter himself). Doug also directed a 2015 Broadway revival of OLD TIMES.

Doug elaborates on aspects of THE CARETAKER, and reflects on the ups and downs of working at close quarters with Harold Pinter consistently over a 10 year period.
